Paper 3 Discussion Question

In the text there are no clear topics that they would recommend for further investigation. So I would like to know in what ways would you continue the research. So just write 2-3 questions that should be answer in the next experiment.

  1. I think there are some further topics for investigation mentioned in the article (just not with a question mark at the end of the sentence nor starting with “we should do a research on”, but the “it’s not clear” and “we do not yet know” can mean that it would worth a research čÖé )

    1. What does this mean to oocyte maturation?
    2. Would heterospecific signals induce a similar response?
    3. Would the absence of these social cues result in decreased fluctuation in hormon cycles?

  2. Will the lack of male choruses lead to a decrease in the fluctuation of the female hormonal cycles?
Does the male choruses lead to oocyte maturation?
Do the females have different hormonal responses to the 2 types of male calls (whine and whine-cluck)?

  3. Will the fluctuation in female hormone cycles decrease when there are no male calls for a long period of time?
Does the mate calls actually affect the oocyte maturation rate?
Does the female have a different hormonal responses to the two types of male calls (whine and whine-cluck)?

  4. First of all, where is the fig 1a?
In my opinion, there is missing a deserved approach.
Results have not enough material, or in one word “nothing” to show. I would recommend entering figures, diagrams, and tables in the results section, to show in a schematic way the flow of the analyzed results, which could be understandable.
In the method section, is not mentioned about the specific groups used, as is mentioned in the results section. In this regard, I would divide into certain phrases the methods used for each specific group of animals. In this section is missing also the year and date, and season of the animal collection.
Conclusions are missing too, so there is one more important section to enter in the research.
However, it seems that this research has not enough material and is too short.

    • Frist of all you can find the fig. 1a at the end of the article after the references.
I agree with entering the tables, diagrams, but even though the result section very understandable, they gave it in a simple way.
about the conclusion, I am sure that is an important part of the paper because it provides closure for the reader, but in this case, the authors in discussion part give the bigger picture of the document and clarify the intent and importance of this study, so need for the conclusion.
I find this article very clear and understandable and they made it in a good method.

      • Yes, I missed the figures, I did not check what are there under references, but why they should put there? The process flow of the research needs to be well standardized. Results with one sentence per hormone do not satisfy me, even there is something understandable. For the methods, I stay in my previous comment.

  5. 1.) Do females react to the sight of male lek-like aggregation, without auditory stimuli?
2.) Do females react the same way to male chorus before the first amlpexus?
3.) How do the androgen and estradiol concentrations change in a finer time scale?
